Former France international Christophe Dugarry has launched a furious attack on Mason Greenwood following the forward’s recent performances for Olympique de Marseille, delivering one of the most explosive criticisms seen in French football this season.
Speaking after Marseille’s disappointing display against FC Nantes, Dugarry questioned Greenwood’s attitude, commitment, and respect toward the club that gave him another opportunity to rebuild his career.
The former World Cup winner did not hold back as he accused Greenwood of failing to appreciate the faith Marseille showed in him after his controversial exit from English football.
“I appeal to your pride,” Dugarry said. “This kid was sidelined from the team, he made a serious mistake before Marseille signed him, and the club took a risk by bringing him on board.”
Dugarry continued by insisting Marseille had done everything possible to help Greenwood succeed, only to feel disappointed by the player’s recent attitude and performances on the pitch.
“He might never have played football again. Everyone did everything possible to put him in the best conditions, and he mocks everyone, he’s a wretch,” he added.
The criticism intensified as Dugarry described Greenwood as one of the leaders of the Marseille squad and claimed the team suffers whenever he fails to deliver.
“You’re the leader of this team, everyone depends on you. When you’re not there, everyone misses you. And what do you offer in return after all the sacrifices, is this it?” Dugarry said. “You’re a miserable wretch, get out of here.”
Despite acknowledging Greenwood’s market value and the financial benefits he could bring Marseille, Dugarry insisted supporters would not defend him if performances like the one against Nantes continue.
“There’s the money you’re going to make the club earn, but nobody’s going to shed a tear for you,” he stated. “What he did against Nantes is shameful.”
Dugarry ended his rant by accusing Greenwood of showing no concern or accountability for his performances, calling the display “an absolute disgrace.”
