Luis Enrique – “Playing matches without supporters is sadder than dancing with your own sister”

Germany’s Bundesliga became the first major European league to return to action on Saturday after remaining suspended for over two months due to the widespread of COVID-19.

With the threat of the virus still prevailing, however, football matches are being played in the absence of supporters.

La Liga, Serie A, and the Premier League now are looking to follow in the footsteps of Bundesliga and have set June 12, June 13, and June 12 respectively as target dates for resuming the 2019/20 football season.

All the leagues are expected to follow the same precautionary measures as the German top-flight football and organize matches in empty stadiums upon returning.

Luis Enrique says he is not particularly fond of fans remaining absent fro stadiums. But the Spanish national team head coach is happy that he is at least able to watch some football amidst all the chaos, thanks to Bundesliga resuming.

Enrique told Colgados del Aro: “It’s very ugly. I watched the German football and it’s lamentable. You can hear the insults and you lose the intimacy of the great moments.

“Playing matches without supporters is sadder than dancing with your own sister.

“You have to understand that football is a business. And it will help to pass the time during the lockdown. If I was still a player, I would like to start again as soon as possible. I’m not afraid.”
