Entertainment Roundup: Jurassic World Dominion’s Record Budget, Eminem’s Meta Lawsuit and Sadie Sink’s New Series

Several major entertainment stories have emerged this week, ranging from blockbuster movie budgets and high-profile legal battles to new television projects and awards season developments.

Jurassic World Dominion has officially been confirmed as the most expensive movie production ever made following newly released financial filings in the United Kingdom.

The 2022 dinosaur blockbuster reportedly accumulated a gross production cost of approximately $658.8 million. After receiving around $127 million in U.K. tax incentives, the film’s final production cost stood at roughly $531 million.

The unprecedented budget has largely been attributed to the challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Production faced lengthy shutdowns, ongoing delays, and the costly task of maintaining cast, crew, and production facilities throughout the interruption. Extensive health and safety protocols also contributed significantly to the soaring expenses.

Meanwhile, rapper Eminem’s music publishing company, 8 Mile Style, continues its legal battle against Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The lawsuit seeks more than $109 million in damages, alleging that Meta included 243 of Eminem’s musical compositions within its creator music libraries without obtaining the appropriate licenses.

A federal judge has allowed the direct copyright infringement claims to move forward into the discovery phase of the case.

However, claims alleging contributory and induced copyright infringement have been dismissed, narrowing the scope of the ongoing legal proceedings.

In television news, Paramount Animation and CBS are developing an animated feature film inspired by the long-running reality competition Survivor.

Hosted by Jeff Probst, the series has become one of television’s most successful franchises, and the upcoming animated adaptation aims to bring its signature strategy, alliances, betrayals, and tribal council drama to a younger audience.

Rather than featuring human contestants, the movie will reportedly center on anthropomorphic animals competing on a mysterious island, offering a family-friendly twist on the reality show’s familiar format.

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has also lined up her next major project. The actress is set to star in and executive produce FX’s limited series adaptation of The Marriage Plot, based on Jeffrey Eugenides’ acclaimed 2011 novel.

The series will be produced by A24, with Succession writer Will Arbery adapting the screenplay and Atlanta director Hiro Murai directing the project. The story follows three recent college graduates whose complicated relationships evolve into an emotional love triangle as they navigate adulthood.

Awards season has also generated headlines after Brittany Allen, along with several guest performers from HBO’s The Pitt, launched independent campaigns for Emmy recognition after not being included in the network’s official submissions.

Allen, who portrayed a terminally ill mother during the show’s second season, is pursuing a nomination in the Outstanding Guest Actress category through a self-funded “For Your Consideration” campaign.

The move highlights a common industry practice in which actors promote their own Emmy campaigns when studios choose to focus their resources on a limited number of performers.
