Cristiano Ronaldo – I have nothing prove to anyone

Ronaldo became only the second player in history to score 100 or more international goals on Tuesday night by single-handedly firing Portugal to a 2-0 win away to Sweden.

The 35-year-old, who had just recovered from a toe infection, was lively from the start. He seemed confident on the ball and quickly tested the Swedish defense before breaking the deadlock with a sublime free-kick just before half-time.

That goal was not only the 57th free-kick scored in his career, but it was his 100th international goal.

Ronaldo later capped off another truly wonderful performance at the Friends Arena by scoring a brilliant second outside the box for a 101st goal. It was a fitting end to another historic night from CR7.

The Juventus ace was once again the difference-maker for Portugal and it couldn’t have been better timed.

There were suggestions Portugal may be better off without Cristiano after their stellar 4-1 win against Croatia last weekend in his absence. But those who questioned him were proven wrong yet again.

“I didn’t follow the comments. It’s an opinion,” Ronaldo said in regard to these claims on Yahoo.

“I knew I had left a mark at this stadium and I knew that, if I played, I would leave a mark again. I don’t care about provocations.

“What I have done in my career speaks for itself. No, I have to prove nothing to anyone, and when I have to prove it, I show it on the pitch.”
