Arsene Wenger feels Paris Saint-Germain’s chances of keeping Kylian Mbappe are dwindling.
Mbappe’s current deal expires at the conclusion of the season, and he has been linked with Real Madrid and Liverpool.
Real Madrid attempted three times last year to recruit the Frenchman but were unsuccessful, and now appear to be the frontrunners to sign the World Cup champion on a free transfer this summer.
PSG has been attempting to sign Mbappe to a new contract for a long time, but the 23-year-old appears to be on his way out.
And former Arsenal manager Wenger stated that convincing Mbappe to sign a new contract now will be difficult for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
“The clock is ticking against PSG,” he told Canal+. “From my own experience, the longer it takes to renew a player, the more difficult it becomes.
“I’ve been waiting for PSG to renew Mbappe for a year and a half. In PSG’s style of play, he is the most important player.
“However, there isn’t much time left, and the footballer is free to sign with anybody he wants today.” PSG was in a scenario where Real Madrid had made them a serious offer. Even if PSG rejects 180 million euros, that is still a significant figure.
“So, when they turned down the money, they either believed to themselves, ‘We need to have a fantastic season because we have [Lionel] Messi and we can’t afford to lose Mbappe,’ or they thought to themselves, ‘We’ll be able to persuade him to remain.’ (Source: Marca)
