Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona has been somewhat of an enigma this season.
The club is a far cry from playing their charismatic best football that Messi usually inspires.
They have sacked manager Ernesto Valverde, which Messi did not wholeheartedly agree with.
This was followed by a very public fall out with Eric Abidal when the director saw fit to criticize the team.
Then they replaced Valverde with Quique Setien who seems to be struggling to come to terms with the magnitude of the club.
This has left Messi having to step in and almost seize control of the dressing room.
It is no secret that Messi has a get-out clause in his current Barcelona deal. This allows him to leave the club if he wishes at the end of the season.
This contract expires in 2021.
But the club is rumored to be preparing a new deal that runs until 2023 and the numbers being reported are record-breaking.
According to El Desmarque, the deal will be worth 50 million Euros per season. This would make the Argentine the highest-paid footballer in the world by a long way.
