Benzema has been the soul of the Los Blancos squad in the recent seasons as he is one of the most consistent performers and the primary source of goals in Zinedine Zidane’s team.
That was not the case until 2018 as Ronaldo remained the difference-maker throughout his nine years with the Spanish champions.
However, it cannot be denied that the Frenchman was almost as important as the Portuguese to the team’s success over the years.
Over 600 goals combined by the deadly pair whose heroics led the side to two La Liga, two Copa del Rey, and four Champions League titles.
“[Benzema] had this intelligence to adapt to the situation and to exploit his potential,” Domenech told France Football, via beIN SPORTS.
“I saw him come back little by little. He was making efforts, relocations, calls, runs, whereas before he wanted the ball into feet and just play.
“Karim was helpful to Ronaldo. And Ronaldo helped Karim, improved him. They absorbed each other.”
“He believed that it was written and inscribed forever, that he was going to make his career like that and that he could be satisfied with doing little.
“Physically, he is monstrous, but he did not exploit this potential, was content to say to himself: ‘Me, I’m here to score, the others just have to do the job’. He was in that phase, and he wasn’t the only one.”
