Aston Villa are looking to make it two wins in a row under Steven Gerrard’s guidance as they prepare to host Manchester City at Villa Park on Wednesday.
At the weekend, the hosts defeated Crystal Palace 2-1, while the Citizens defeated West Ham United by the same score.
The Englishman’s dismissal from Aston Villa may have been the wisest option for everyone concerned, as Gerrard made it two for two against Palace on Saturday.
Following a corner, Matt Targett broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, before John McGinn sealed the victory with a superb effort from outside the area with four minutes remaining, and Marc Guehi’s consolation came too late for Palace to attempt a comeback.
Villa remain 13th in the Premier League rankings heading of the midweek round of fixtures, with Gerrard’s 100 percent start to life back in England.
The West Midlands team is one of three sides with 16 points, and a top-half berth may be theirs for the taking if things go their way this week.
City can take nothing for granted as Gerrard attempts to deliver even more festive happiness to the Villa Park supporters.
The hosts have scored in all of their Premier League home games so far this season, winning three of them.
