Anthony Gordon Completes Dream Move to Barcelona, ‘I Wanted to Play for Barça Since I Was 3’

Barcelona have officially completed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth more than €80 million, with the England international putting pen to paper on a contract running until 2031.

The winger was officially unveiled by the Catalan club alongside agent Adam Dugdale and Unique Sports CEO Will Salthouse, marking the beginning of what Gordon described as a lifelong dream.

“I wanted to play for Barcelona since I was 3 years old,” Gordon said during his presentation.

In one of the standout moments of his unveiling, Gordon revealed that his connection to Barcelona stretches back to childhood, even explaining how his ambition to one day play for the Spanish giants inspired him to learn the language.

“I speak Spanish because as a kid I believed I would play for Barça,” Gordon said. “I had a physio at Newcastle who was Spanish and we spoke Spanish every day. I told him I wanted to play for Barça one day, that’s why I speak some Spanish.”

The move represents one of Barcelona’s biggest transfer investments in recent years, with Gordon arriving as a major addition to Hansi Flick’s squad ahead of the new season.

The 25 year old admitted that conversations with Flick played a major role in convincing him that Barcelona was the right destination.

“I spoke to Hansi Flick. I was very excited to join Barcelona,” Gordon said. “After that, I was even more excited. Flick seems like a great man manager. I hope we can achieve many things together.”

Gordon also expressed his excitement about sharing the dressing room with some of football’s brightest stars, particularly teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.

“I’m excited to play with Lamine Yamal and all of the other players at the club,” he said. “We’re talking about the best players in the world here.”

The former Newcastle winger made no secret of his ambitions at Camp Nou, setting his sights firmly on silverware and highlighting the UEFA Champions League as his biggest objective.

“I want to win every trophy at Barça, yes,” Gordon declared. “But mainly the Champions League, ‘La Sexta.’ Winning the Champions League with Barça would be iconic for me. I’m here to win everything at the club.”

On the pitch, Gordon compared aspects of his game to current Barcelona star Raphinha, pointing to similarities in style and intensity.

“I would compare myself a lot to Raphinha, especially due to my intensity,” Gordon explained. “We are both fast, technical, play in behind and we try to score goals always. I’m like him.”

The Englishman ended his presentation by reaffirming just how much the opportunity to join Barcelona meant to him.

“Barça are the biggest club in the world,” Gordon said. “As soon as I knew they were interested, I wanted to join.”

With a long term contract secured and expectations already sky high, Gordon now begins a new chapter in Spain hoping to help usher Barcelona back to the summit of European football.
