The cast and production team of Disney+’s highly anticipated Korean action thriller A Shop for Killers Season 2 recently gathered for a press conference, offering new details about the upcoming sequel.
Director Lee Kwon, along with stars Lee Dong Wook, Kim Hye Joon, Jo Han Sun, Jung Yi Seo, Hyun Ri, Okada Masaki, and Kim Min, discussed the story’s central theme, expanded action sequences, and the new characters joining the battle.
A Shop for Killers Season 2 Theme Is “Counterattack”
Director Lee Kwon revealed that the defining keyword for Season 2 is “Counterattack.”
Unlike the first season, which followed Jeong Ji An desperately trying to survive after being thrust into a deadly conspiracy, the sequel shifts the focus toward taking the offensive.
According to the director, Ji An has grown beyond simply protecting herself. After everything she experienced in Season 1, she is determined to confront her enemies instead of constantly running from them.
The new season will also answer lingering questions from the first installment, particularly surrounding the mysterious mercenary organization Babylon and the secrets left behind by Jeong Jin Man.
Jeong Ji An Returns Stronger Than Ever
Kim Hye Joon shared that viewers will witness a dramatically different side of Jeong Ji An in Season 2.
Having accepted the dangerous world her uncle left behind, Ji An has evolved into a capable fighter who is prepared to strike back against those threatening her.
The actress revealed that her character now participates in larger action sequences involving firearms and more advanced combat, reflecting Ji An’s growth since the events of Season 1.
Lee Dong Wook’s Jeong Jin Man Takes the Fight to His Enemies
Lee Dong Wook explained that Jeong Jin Man’s role also changes significantly in the new season.
Rather than remaining a protector working from the shadows, Jin Man decides that simply defending those he cares about is no longer enough.
Instead, he launches a full-scale counterattack to finally settle the conflict once and for all.
Lee Dong Wook said he approached the sequel with a strong sense of responsibility, hoping to deliver a season that surpasses the original in both storytelling and action.
Jo Han Sun Introduces a Relentless New Threat
Season 2 will also introduce a more dangerous version of Bae Il, played by Jo Han Sun.
The actor described his character as a relentless predator whose only objective is hunting down Jeong Jin Man.
Completely focused on his target, Bae Il ignores everything else around him, making him one of the season’s most intimidating antagonists.
A Shop for Killers Season 2 Features Bigger and More Ambitious Action
The production team revealed that the sequel raises the scale of its action sequences considerably.
One of the highlights includes a technically demanding one-take fight scene filmed using a 360-degree camera, requiring close coordination between the cast, stunt performers, and production crew.
The series also introduces a wider variety of combat styles, with extensive training in motorcycle stunts, wire action, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, wrestling, and other forms of hand-to-hand combat.
Kim Hye Joon and Kim Min both underwent months of preparation to perform many of the physically demanding sequences.
New Babylon Characters Expand the Story
Season 2 expands the world of Babylon with the addition of several new characters.
Jung Yi Seo joins the cast as Kusana-gi, Hyun Ri plays Q, and Japanese actor Okada Masaki portrays J, all members connected to Babylon’s East Asia branch.
The actors explained that they spent months preparing physically for their roles to match the demanding action established in the first season while helping expand the global scope of the story.
