Ronaldo has come a long way since delivering that masterclass campaign that led Manchester United to Champions League glory in 2007/08, which was the first time he won the competition.
The Portuguese ace has since built a legacy like none other in the competition. Aside from steering Real Madrid to four titles, including three in a row, he has smashed countless records and is the highest goalscorer in Champions League history on 131 goals.
But it appears Ronaldo is far from done yet, here are three records Cristiano Ronaldo can break this season.
Most appearances in UCL
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will make his 173rd Champions League appearance (qualifiers excluded) if he plays for Juventus against Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday night.
Should Andrea Pirlo give him the nod, he will move to within four games of equaling former Real Madrid teammate Iker Casillas’ record of 177 appearances. If Juve reach the quarter-finals at least this season, and CR7 plays in all those games, the record will be his.
Most hat-tricks in Champions League
Ronaldo will get another chance to move clear of Lionel Messi for bragging rights to the Champions League hat-trick record this season.
The pair are currently tied on a record eight hat-tricks after Cristiano’s heroics against Atletico Madrid in March 2019. Not only was it the star’s first treble for Juventus, but it also made him only the 11th player in the competition’s history to score three goals in one game for two different clubs after first doing so for Real Madrid.
First player to win six titles in Champions League era
Ronaldo was the star of all five Champions League titles he won with Manchester United and Real Madrid. His sheer consistency was remarkable, as he pounded in countless decisive goals in each campaign.
Now the 35-year-old hopes to do it again in Turin and end Juventus’ 24-year wait for glory in the competition.
If Ronaldo can pull it off, he will move level with fellow Real Madrid legend Pace Gento on a record six European titles. He’ll also become the first player in the Champions League era to win the competition six times.
