Arteta on Mourinho – “He’s still a world-class manager”

Tottenham have progressed ever since the appointment of Jose Mourinho, but the pace of their progress has not been quite desirable.

Injuries to key players are of course a determining factor for their sluggish advancement, with the likes of Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane, Erik Lamela, Moussa Sissoko all having spent considerable time on the sidelines.

But even when all the players up and running, like in recent times, they have displayed lack of consistency, intent, and ability on the pitch.

Currently ranked ninth on the league table, qualifying for Champions League increasingly looks to be a distant dream for last year’s finalists.

A string of lacklustre performances have started to raise questions as to whether Mourinho is the right man for taking the team in the right direction.

Mikel Arteta reminds that the Portuguese tactician is a seasoned winner and, given enough time, he can indeed guide Tottenham to glory.

“Absolutely [he’s still a world-class manager],” said Arteta ahead of the North London derby, as Sky Sports reports.

“I have huge respect for Jose and what he’s trying to do. He makes sure that he wins and he has won at every single club he has been. I’m sure he will be successful. It will take him a bit of time.

“I know that he has done it [before]. I know people who have worked with him, he always finds a way to be successful. I’m sure he will do it again.”
