Arteta needs as much as £150m to get Arsenal back on track – Perry Groves

Mikel Arteta has certainly improved Arsenal since taking over from Unai Emery.

The Gunners have climbed up the table and certainly pulled off some good results.

However, they are still a far cry from a top-four regular or pushing for top honors.

While there have been moments of magic, there have also been many of despair. The Gunners have the tendency to fall apart or worse still hit the self destruct button.

The recent North London derby is a prime example the very worst they have to offer, while the ability to grind out a result against Liverpool shows there is still hope.

Club legend Perry Groves feels that Mikel Arteta is simply juggling the players he has been lumbered with until he can start wheeling a dealing.

Speaking to Talk Sport Groves feels that several have to leave and that some serious money must be invested in the squad if Arteta is to bring the club back to its rightful place as a Premier League giant.

Groves said: “Arsenal need money spent in different areas, especially at center-half and in central midfield.”

“I can see what Arteta is trying to do, I can see there’s a plan, but at the moment he’s dealing with six, seven, eight players he knows he doesn’t really want, but, he’s got to keep using them and be cute.”

“We’ve got a lot of young players coming in, which is good, but watching the game against Liverpool it was survival football, let’s be honest.”

“There is a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel, but the finances, that squad probably needs £100m or £150m spent on it.”
