Lee Jin Uk may be joining Girls’ Generation’s Lim Yoona in the highly anticipated Korean remake of the hit Japanese drama Unnatural.
On July 15, reports revealed that Lee Jin Uk is currently in positive discussions to star in the upcoming mystery medical drama. Responding to the casting news, his agency BH Entertainment confirmed, “Lee Jin Uk is positively reviewing his appearance in Unnatural.”
The update comes just months after Lim Yoona was reported to be in talks for the same project. Back in May, SM Entertainment confirmed that the actress and Girls’ Generation member had received an offer for the lead role and was positively reviewing it.
What Is the Korean Drama Unnatural About?
Unnatural is a mystery medical drama centered on forensic pathologists who investigate suspicious and unexplained deaths, uncovering hidden truths behind so-called unnatural cases.
The original Japanese series became both a critical and commercial success, earning widespread acclaim and winning numerous Japanese television awards. Its compelling storytelling and emotional investigations have made it one of Japan’s most celebrated mystery dramas.
The Korean adaptation will be directed by Park Yoo Young, best known for The Kidnapping Day and Ms. Incognito.
Lim Yoona in Talks to Play Forensic Doctor Im Do Eun
If confirmed, Lim Yoona will portray Im Do Eun, a talented forensic doctor working at the UDI forensic investigation center.
Im Do Eun is known for her sharp observational skills, bright personality, and unwavering determination. Although she has a quick temper and an enormous appetite, she is respected for her resilience and dedication to uncovering the truth behind every case.
Her warm and optimistic nature also allows her to build strong relationships with those around her despite the emotionally demanding nature of her profession.
Lee Jin Uk Eyes Role of Koo Seung Hyuk
Lee Jin Uk has reportedly been offered the role of Koo Seung Hyuk, another forensic doctor who works alongside Im Do Eun.
Unlike his potential colleague, Koo Seung Hyuk is described as someone who keeps his emotions in check and relies entirely on evidence during investigations. Carrying a tragic past, he approaches every case with logic and professionalism, making him a stark contrast to Im Do Eun’s more compassionate personality.
The dynamic between the two forensic experts is expected to become one of the drama’s central storylines.
